BEFORE YOU BOOK
What is the booking process?
It starts with an inquiry! I'll answer any questions you may have, we'll talk through what you're looking for, and, if you decide to move forward, we'll confirm a date that works for your session.
Your date is officially reserved once your contract is signed and retainer is paid.
After booking, I'll personally send your confirmation email with everything you need to know. These aren't one-size-fits-all emails; I adjust them to include any details we've already discussed, along with location information, preparation tips, or anything specific to the type of session you've booked.
You'll also receive a questionnaire before your session. This helps me get to know who I'm photographing and what matters most to you. Planning a solo portrait session looks very different from photographing a family with three little ones, and I don't want to show up and simply wing it! Your answers help me plan poses, prompts, important combinations, and little details you don't want me to miss.
A day or two before your session, I'll send a reminder with any last-minute details, and then it's time for your session!
If you haven't already paid your remaining balance, it will be due at your session.
Afterward, I'll get to work carefully selecting and editing your images. Once your gallery is complete, you'll receive an email with a private link to view and download your finished photographs.
From your first inquiry to your final gallery, my goal is for you to always know what comes next.
Is a retainer required?
Yes. A non-refundable retainer and signed contract are required to reserve your date. Your session is not officially booked until both have been completed. For most sessions, the retainer is $75. This is applied towards your session total. (Weddings, births, and other events have their own varying retainer amounts)
Can you hold a date for me?
Dates are booked on a first-come, first-served basis and are only held with a completed contract and retainer.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes! Once your date is reserved, you’re welcome to make payments toward your remaining balance at any time. There’s no set payment schedule- you can break it up however works best for you, as long as the balance is paid in full by the deadline for your session or service.
When is my remaining balance due?
For most portrait sessions, your remaining balance is due on the day of your session, though you’re welcome to pay it at any time beforehand.
Weddings, births, and events require final payment prior to coverage. Your specific payment deadline will be outlined in your contract and invoice when you book.
PLANNING YOUR SESSION
Where will my session take place?
After booking, you'll receive access to my location guide with some of my favorite tried-and-true locations. I'm always happy to help you choose one based on the look you're going for, the season, your family, and the type of session we're planning. Location scouting is a service I offer to my booked clients/
If you have a meaningful location of your own in mind, I'm happy to hear about that too.
Will you help us choose what to wear?
Absolutely. What you wear can make a huge difference in the overall feel of your gallery, and I'm happy to help with colors, coordination, and choosing pieces that photograph well. You can also find more styling advice on the blog.
Once you've booked your session, I'm available for providing styling guidance, finding outfit links, or creating mood boards to help guide you.
What time will my session be?
Most outdoor sessions are scheduled around golden hour, when the light is softest and most flattering. Because sunset changes throughout the year, your exact session time may vary depending on your date and location. Sunrise sessions are also an option.
If the session is taking place indoors, like in-home or studio, daytime availability is flexible.
What happens if it rains?
I keep an eye on the forecast leading up to outdoor sessions. Texas weather has a mind of its own, so I generally avoid making the call too early. If weather makes it unsafe or genuinely unsuitable to photograph, we'll work together to reschedule, no penalty to you.
YOUR SESSION
What if my kids don't cooperate?
They're kids, I don't expect them to! We'll start with the classic everyone-looking-at-the-camera photos when we can, but I don't spend an entire session demanding perfect smiles. We come back to it if we need to. I use movement, games, prompts, and interaction to keep things moving and capture genuine connection along the way.
Some of my favorite images happen after we've stopped trying so hard to make everything “perfect.”
Read this blog post to learn more about what to expect with kids.
Do we need to know how to pose?
Not at all. I'll guide you throughout your session so you never have to wonder what to do next. We'll get a few classic posed images, then use prompts and movement to create the more natural, connected images you see throughout my portfolio. This blog post has more information on my posing style!
Can I bring props?
Absolutely, especially if they're meaningful to you. I generally prefer props that complement the story rather than run it, so feel free to send your ideas to me beforehand! Things like a blanket or chair are always welcome.
Can I bring my dog?
Absolutely! Pets are always welcome. For sessions in public locations, it’s best if your pup knows basic commands like sit and stay, especially since we never know what people, pets, or wildlife we may encounter.
AFTER YOUR SESSION
Can I have the RAW/unedited images?
No. RAW files are unfinished work and aren't representative of the final product I provide. Your delivered gallery includes the fully edited, high-resolution images included with your package. I do not ever provide raw or unedited images.
How long until I receive my gallery?
For most sessions, the turnaround time will be 30 days, though this may vary depending on the type of session you've booked, and the season. Turnaround times will always be outlined in your contract.
Can I print my photos myself?
Yes! You may print your images for personal use. For the best color and quality, professional printing is always recommended, I recommend ordering through MPix.
Please avoid ordering through quick print shops- like CVS, Walgreens, and Shutterfly for example- as they are known to distort color. I am not responsible for product or image issues caused by using low quality print shops.
Do you retouch my photos?
Every delivered image receives my standard professional editing, including adjustments to light, color, crop, and overall finish. I do include minor skin smoothing, acne/blemish removal, and subtle teeth whitening on all images. I also remove distractions like random objects, bra straps, or trash that may have made it into the image.
More extensive retouching- such as head swaps, significant clothing edits, or detailed body/appearance changes- is not automatically included unless otherwise stated. Advanced retouching is available for an additional fee when desired.
What camera equipment do you use?
I photograph sessions using professional Canon mirrorless equipment and a selection of lenses chosen for the setting and type of session I'm photographing. Most sessions will be shot with my 50 mm lens. I use a 28-70 mm lens during weddings and events.
Gear is only one piece of creating a beautiful image, but I believe professional work deserves professional tools.
Will you post my photos online?
Only with your permission. My contract does include a model release, but you are always welcome to opt out. While I always hope you allow me to share your images, your decision to keep your images private does not change the care or experience you receive.
